During the opening ceremony, the children presented a welcoming dance that demonstrated the results of their learning, as well as the confidence and energy they gained at the center. Deputy Director Chen Chung-liang of the Social Affairs Bureau thanked the CTBC Charity Foundation for funding the establishment of after-school care centers in three communities in Taichung: Toubian Community and Guanglong Community in Taiping District, and Shicheng Community in Dongshi District. Guanglong Community’s after-school care center provides after-school care, meals, and diverse courses. They also organize activities such as laser engraving and 3D printing, as well as Thanksgiving-themed events and charity haircuts, all designed to inspire creativity and imagination in the children.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, the Guanglong Community, situated in Taiping’s Chelongpu area, has risen from the devastation caused by the 1999 Jiji earthquake. Through the efforts of community leaders and volunteers, the area has not only set up an after-school care center but has also become Taichung’s top animal-friendly community. The association is also dedicated to promoting intergenerational harmony among the young, elderly, and children. This year, it will represent Taichung in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Golden Excellence Community Selection, showcasing the community's vibrancy and service accomplishments.
At today's event, Deputy Director Chen Chung-liang of the Social Affairs Bureau, Taichung City Council member Chang Yu-yen, Taiping District Supervisor Hsu Kuei-fang, Specialist Huang Shu-hui of the Department of Social Assistance and Social Work under the Ministry of Health and Welfare, CTBC Charity Foundation Chairman Jeffrey Koo Jr., and Chang Shu-hui, co-host of the Taiwan Dream Empowerment Project by the Taiwan Care Management Association all attended the community celebration, showing their strong support and recognition for the community’s accomplishments in service.
