  Senior Volunteers Shine! Taichung’s Voluntary Service Program Evaluation Results Revealed
 
By working hand in hand with skilled senior volunteers, we can achieve intergenerational inclusion, as well as infuse innovation and vitality into volunteer services! The Social Affairs Bureau of the Taichung City Government has revealed the results of the 2024 Volunteer Service Program Evaluation, with 23 projects that promote intergenerational collaboration and youth and older people’s inclusion. By harnessing the skills of senior volunteers and with a focus on innovation, diversity, and sustainability, these programs are breathing new life into volunteer services and fostering an inclusive and friendly society across generations, with remarkable results in volunteer efforts.
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, this year’s Volunteer Service Program Evaluation focused on four key areas: Enhancement in Volunteer Capacity Citywide, Innovation in Volunteer Services, Senior Volunteer Services, and Community Involvement in Epidemic Prevention. Out of 34 teams competing in the evaluation by purpose enterprise competent authorities, 13 bureaus and departments stood out, earning Excellence, A-Class, and Top Five honors. Additionally, in the senior volunteer program evaluation by the Social Affairs Bureau, 22 social welfare and general service units took part, with 10 of them earning Excellence and A-Class honors.
The Local Tax Bureau embraced intergenerational collaboration by inviting seniors to share their expertise and skills and adopting innovative methods to deepen the value of volunteering. Their efforts earned Excellence in both “Diverse and Innovative Volunteer Services” and “Senior Volunteer Services.” Meanwhile, the Health Bureau stood out by deploying volunteers for pandemic prevention and conducting various health education campaigns to boost public awareness and safeguard public health, earning Excellence in Community Involvement in Epidemic Prevention.
Additionally, community volunteer groups have also shown their volunteering capacity. The Yude Community Development Association in Taichung's North District has consistently engaged senior volunteers in supporting various initiatives. By leveraging interdisciplinary platforms to promote services and recruit new volunteers, they exemplified successful intergenerational collaboration, earning high praise from the judges. The Social Affairs Bureau extended its gratitude to all involved purpose enterprise competent authorities and their teams for promoting intergenerational inclusion, diversity and innovation, and capacity building in volunteering. Looking forward, the Bureau will continue to uphold the idea of intergenerational collaboration, encourage greater involvement from senior volunteers, and work toward realizing a shared vision of making Taichung a city of happiness.
