Respite for Parents: Taichung Expands to 6 Fixed-Location Temporary Childcare Centers After Chinese New Year

Supporting family-friendly childcare and being a warm backing for families! Since last year, Taichung’s Social Affairs Bureau has introduced “Fixed-Location Temporary Childcare” to provide flexible care options for busy families, easing their childcare burden. This well-received service will soon expand, with new locations in Xitun and Fengyuan Districts launching on February 10. Combined with the existing centers in Nantun, Beitun, Shalu, and Dali, Taichung will now have six service points, allowing more parents to access this service.
“The temporary childcare service really helped me reclaim some time for myself.” Full-time mom Mei shares her experience—her husband is a soldier, and she single-handedly takes care of their 3-year-old and 8-month-old children. She longs to meet friends but often has to turn down invitations due to a lack of support. She loves her children dearly, but the exhaustion and frustration build up over time. Thanks to the Fixed-Location temporary childcare service introduced by the Social Affairs Bureau, she can now enjoy brief moments of respite from her parenting duties.
The Social Affairs Bureau shared that Haohau’s parents are busy at work. When his grandparents suddenly needed medical care, they had no one to look after him—until the Fixed-Location temporary childcare service stepped in. Thanks to the service, Haohau was well cared for. When his parents arrived to pick him up, they saw him happily playing with building blocks while the caregivers had meticulously recorded his activities. Relieved, Haohau’s parents said, “This service was exactly what we needed in an emergency, and now we feel reassured knowing our child is in a safe and caring environment.”
According to the Social Affairs Bureau, all Fixed-Location temporary childcare centers meet safety standards and are staffed with certified caregivers, providing parents with a reliable childcare option. Families with children aged 6 months to under 6 years who can’t take care of their children themselves due to emergencies or unexpected situations can book online through the Taichung Parenting Resource website by 4 PM, three business days in advance. The service costs NT$400 for a minimum of two hours, with an additional NT$200 per extra hour. For more information, please refer to the Social Affairs Bureau’s website or contact their local home-based childcare service center.
