  One Photo, One Story

A photograph captures a moment in time and also preserves the shape of everyday life. The Social Affairs with Love, Warm Taichung Facebook fan page of the Social Affairs Bureau of Taichung City Government is now holding the "Beautiful Times" campaign, inviting submissions of old photographs of women from the 1950s to the 1970s, or retro style outfit photos. Fifty selected entries will each receive a NT$200 gift voucher and a gift, while the top three award winners will each receive a NT$2,000 gift voucher and a gift. Submissions will be accepted from now until June 30, 2026. Members of the public are welcome to share women’s memories and stories from "that era".
The Social Affairs Bureau stated that Taiwan experienced rapid economic growth and social transformation from the 1950s to the 1970s, during which women also faced changing roles as they stepped out of the home and entered the workforce. Through old photographs or retro style outfit photos, the Bureau hopes to recreate the ways women lived in family life, work, and daily life during that period. The 50 selected photographs will be exhibited at the Women’s Development Base at the Meicun Integrated Service Park. As a public platform for women’s learning, empowerment, exchange, and self expression, the base will turn personal memories into a shared cultural landscape for the city.
The Social Affairs Bureau continues to implement the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, CEDAW, and SDG 5, Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Through diverse initiatives and issue based advocacy, the Bureau seeks to enhance women’s visibility and social participation and to build a more friendly and inclusive urban environment.
